Today we are going to give our blog a very peaceful touch with the interview to Jesús Sans, Programmer and Data Analyst at Nousmedis. An explorer of nature and virtual worlds in his spare time, he imprints his curiosity and adventurous spirit in everything he does. He is always one step ahead of any of us and yes, his vibes are gentle and harmonious, but internally he has an overwhelming energy that drives him always forward. Always ready to take on new challenges and responsibilities, and not to settle for the surface of things.
Since 2023, while still pursuing a double degree in computer engineering and clinical laboratory, Jesus decided to choose the scripting path by joining our team. He is a great professional, who never stops progressing and bringing quality to the team in every project.
By enjoying his answers, you will not only understand why we value him so much on a technical level, but you will also discover his tender, optimistic and kind character, which makes us value him so much on a personal level.
Do you have a morning routine or habit that prepares you for the workday?
There is nothing that prepares me better to face the day than a morning shower to wash my bleary eyes and a good matcha latte to get me going.
What is your role at Nousmedis?
I am a programmer and data analyst; I help clients from the definition of data models to the automation of their catalogs and product sheets.
What three professional skills or qualities do you think are most valued at Nousmedis?
I would say that what is most valued in my way of working is the ability to think outside the box; to understand the needs and look for solutions based on listening and versatility. I consider that this ability to adapt and renew myself to take on new challenges is something that defines me quite a bit at work. In such a dynamic role, skills have to be up to the task of coping with so much change!
What is your secret superpower at work?
I don’t know if this is a superpower, nor if it is secret (I suspect many of my colleagues have it too), but I would say that I have a great capacity for abstraction, which allows me to identify patterns and find solutions based on them.
What is one of the projects you have enjoyed the most in the company and why?
This is like asking a parent to choose their favorite child 😆.
I am very fond of all the projects and I have learned a lot from all of them. However, if I had to choose a favorite child, I would choose the automation we did for ADDCOM, the design team of LIDL Spain and LIDL Portugal. In this project we combined different programming techniques to achieve a 100% automated result and this technical challenge allowed me to learn a lot.
Which catalog would you like to automate?
Ugh… As a videogame geek, I would like to automate a retro design catalog with the videogames of each platform. So, while I work I can go thinking what will be my next virtual adventure, hehehe…. 🎮
Do you think that the days of printed publications are numbered?
On the scale to which we are accustomed today, unfortunately, I think so. We are still far from that; I think there are still many users who can only be accessed through a physical catalog. However, as with everything, technology advances and society’s paradigms change, it is time to accept it and adapt. Still, I don’t think at all that they will disappear completely. The charm of the texture of the paper, the smell of a freshly printed page and the aesthetics are elements that I consider irreplaceable. Of course, they may be considered vintage, like vinyl or cassettes today.
Can you share a recent accomplishment, either personal or professional, of which you are particularly proud?
Of course! I am extremely proud to be working and studying at the university at the same time. I started this double routine a couple of years ago with the insecurity of being able to cover everything. But now, every semester passed is an achievement to celebrate!
Tell us a funny anecdote you have experienced at Nousmedis or a favorite moment.
My favorite moment without a doubt is the moment when we all get together as a team to share a meal or a recipe. Doing things like that in the office allows you to disconnect from work and get to know your colleagues on a more personal level.
If you could swap roles with anyone on the team for a day, who would you choose and why?
If the role exchange also entails all the knowledge of the person, I would certainly trade for any of my more senior colleagues, and take advantage of all that knowledge to improve my work on a day-to-day basis.
When you are not working, we can find you…
If it is between September and June, probably studying… It’s neither fun nor exciting, but it’s the reality 👨🎓
In the moments when I can get out of my elbows for a little while, probably playing a video game exploring new worlds; going out by myself to explore my surroundings with a good hiking route; taking care of my little plants or, if I’m too tired, disassociating on the couch.
Recommend a book, podcast, series or movie you’ve been obsessed with lately.
A series that has moved to my favorites list recently is. Young Sheldon a spin-off of The Big Bang Theory the famous sitcom by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady.
They are short, light and very funny chapters about the childhood of Sheldon Cooper, a genius with very peculiar peculiarities that, as impossible as it may seem, end up being endearing.
What is the best advice you have ever been given and who gave it to you?
I don’t quite remember who told me this, but it’s a pretty common thing: enjoy the road. In the end, life is nothing more than what happens between the “now” and the “after”, so you have to appreciate every moment.
If in addition to Jesus you want to meet the other members of the team, don’t miss the rest of the interviews in our Blog!
