Happy 25th Anniversary, Nousmedis!

25 Years Anniversary

Our company is celebrating its first 25 years of history this year. We are not very fond of looking back with nostalgia, but if we consider our history, we are really proud of what we have achieved. With our eyes fixed on our roadmap and goals for the present, but with our heads dreaming and inventing the future we want, after this quarter of a century, at Nousmedis we continue to be pioneers and leaders in simplifying and automating catalog management for the world.

Regardless of industry or location, we offer world-class catalog automation solutions. We work to let our customers decide how and when to update their catalog with our advanced tools. We offer solutions in multiple languages and for customers around the world, because efficiency in catalog management can come from anywhere and benefit companies everywhere. Nothing excites us more than automation, and we want to be at your side to help you optimize your catalog management.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

These are the words of Alan Kay, an American computer scientist known for his pioneering contributions to the development of modern computing. Born in 1940, he is famous for his work in the design of object-oriented programming languages, in particular Smalltalk, and for his innovations in the field of graphical user interface (GUI). His discoveries, advances and reflections have influenced other programming languages such as Objective-C, Java, Self, Python, Ruby and AppleScript, among others.

The phrase reflects Kay’s philosophy on innovation and technological progress. This phrase encapsulates his belief that, rather than waiting and speculating about what the future holds, individuals and organizations must take an active role in its creation through research, development and implementation of new ideas and technologies.

And this is the philosophy that drives the course of Nousmedis since its beginnings. Throughout the years and hand in hand with a firm commitment to the pursuit of excellence in the automation of catalogs, in Nousmedis we have innovated, evolved and grown inventing our future and making it a reality.

Just as we like to introduce the people who make up our team, today we offer you a walk through our history.

Join us on this journey to discover the significant milestones that have made us who we are today.

Our beginnings. From New Media to Nousmedis

In 1999, just one year before the beginning of the new millennium and on the verge of the so-called “dot-com crash”, we embarked on a new adventure. Combining our experience in the publishing industry, multimedia and Web application programming, and workflow optimization through the use of scripts and XML, we founded New Media, a company dedicated to automate repetitive and tedious tasks typical of the publishing industry.

Already at that time we adopted version 1.0 of InDesign which was to replace the hegemonic dominance of QuarkXPress. Thus, we started to work on the typographic and scripting options offered by the new application from Adobe.

In these first years, we added actions, met new clients and generated experience and, in 2001, we became known as Nousmedis.

2004. Our first catalog

And, finally, we produced our first automated catalog: Balclis, one of the most renowned auction houses in Spain and the most important in Barcelona. We will always be grateful to this auctioneer for the courage to trust us blindly and to be our “guinea pig”. After one year, the process of elaboration of their catalogs went from 2 months to 2 weeks!

In 2005, with the arrival of the second version of Adobe, we saw that only user-level mastery of this application was insufficient. We had to become experts. We had to dig our heels in to get the necessary certifications, so we set about it and, from that moment on, we started renewing our Adobe certifications annually to keep up to date.

2008. InDesign guides for Anaya Multimedia

The CS3 version of InDesign has become the de facto standard for layout of all types of content, and since a large part of our work consists of training our clients, what better than to offer a manual written by ourselves?

Thanks to Eugenio Tuya, publisher of Anaya, we started a prosperous collaboration that led to the publication of 5 InDesign books. Quite a record!

2013. Official partners of EasyCatalog

In 2013, we became an official partner of 65Bit, developers of the EasyCatalog tool for Adobe InDesign.

With the increasing complexity and sophistication of catalog automation, EasyCatalog has become an indispensable tool. It allows data to be kept synchronized throughout the production process, regardless of its origin, whether it is a database, an XML document or a CSV file.

In addition to translating the software and documentation into our language, at Nousmedis we become implementers, distributors and trainers of this powerful plugin, which automates any type of catalog or price list, no matter how complex it may be.

2015. Official partners of Sales Layer

With the exponential increase in online sales, a new tool for managing the quality of a company’s product catalog and its homogeneity across all distribution channels became essential.

This new type of tool is known as PIM (Product Information Management), and is also known as the Sales Layer is one of the most versatile, powerful and easy to use on the market. This is why, in 2015, we decided to become their official partners in order to respond to this need.

Thanks to this collaboration, we developed an exclusive module that allows direct import of Sales Layer data into EasyCatalog, which allows us to keep product information synchronized in the paper format. The squaring of the circle, come on!

2018. Nousmedis, a company of the CeGe Lab Group

In 2018, Nousmedis and CeGe decided to join forces in CeGe Lab, an exclusive space dedicated to R&D.

This collaboration was made with the purpose of expanding the technological infrastructure to offer broader services; ranging from catalog automation and data optimization – which allow marketing and communication teams to reduce costs and time – to support in graphic production and printing, packaging, content creation, publishing and management, retail and POS services, supply chain & fulfillment marketing, as well as direct and crossmedia marketing actions.

2021. A step further: Syncwall

One of the biggest difficulties in integrating data into the PIM to perform automation comes from the quality of the data and the heterogeneity of its sources (ERP, CRM, PLM, Databases, Excel documents and even cloud-based storage systems such as Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive and Dropbox).

That’s why, in 2021, we got down to work and developed Syncwall, a custom-made data connector for the PIM, which aims to bring them all together, validate them, transform them, homogenize them and, finally, make sure they are in perfect harmony with Sales Layer.

2023. Ninox

In 2023, in addition to continuing to optimize the process flow of our customers, we want to solve another tangle in catalog automation processes: the organization of data for management.

To do so, we decided to approach Ninox and establish a relationship with a new partner. Ninox is a database management software designed to create customized databases tailored to the specific needs of companies. It is a versatile and easy-to-use platform that allows users to structure, manage and analyze data efficiently.

2024. Nousmedis sets foot in Miami!

As you already read in our previous post, this 2024, Nousmedis marked a historic milestone with the opening of our new commercial office in Miami .

With great enthusiasm, we decided to expand to offer our extensive catalog automation expertise in the United States. With this step we strengthen our international presence, while at the same time consolidating our position as an industry leader.

Our location in Miami, one of our technology development centers, allows us to establish meaningful relationships with customers beyond our borders, as well as to promote the exchange of ideas and foster innovation in our production process.

With this last big step, we end the biographical journey of Nousmedis, although we hope to be able to share the next milestone very soon.

If you want to know more about Nousmedis, don’t miss the personal interviews of the team members that we share in the Blog!
